I'm back! Back on stage that is. Life has certainly been a whirlwind up until this point. So much has happened since my last performance, an experience I'm dying to tell you all about, but not in this post. I'm tired, it's late, and I just wanted to pop in to say ya girl is coming back and coming back strong! So catch me in the city this Friday for the 1st of many new shows. Can't wait! After the show I'll do another diary about life and all that stuff. Night night*
Alex Kellytag:alexkellymusic.com,2005:Post/46640912017-04-09T10:20:54-04:002022-05-20T20:03:54-04:00Status: Chillen
Well that was a nightmare! Spring is finally here, thank god. I'm not sure how much more of this NYC weather I can take. Maybe move to Florida or something. Although I'm not sure what the music scene is like there. Anyhow, it's over! So what's new? Same shit new day, new music, new musicians, new life, new attitude. I think that takes care of all the new stuff. FYI, I hate writing about this shit, makes me yawn. I do like to check in every now and then though, so here I am....checking in...

Still no FB/IG/Twit/or whatever other spy programs everyone is into these days. This world is so crazy. Seems like the only thing we have left is music. Find some that you love. Something that makes you feel good, mind, body, and (MOST IMPORTANTLY) soul. Cling to it. It may be your last hope.

Be safe out there
-AK

Alex Kellytag:alexkellymusic.com,2005:Post/45163572016-12-18T16:49:15-05:002022-05-20T20:04:28-04:00The Deep Freeze
Seems like a good time to pop in before the end of the year, no? I know, I know, you missed me so much your face almost popped off! Well rest assured I'm here now. Let’s catch you up on what’s good:

Social Media
Facebook, Insta, Twitter and all other social media are in Alex's time-out. I'm so over all of them! It was all fun and games until the 2016 presidential election. I was really upset by the way information was manipulated by social media, so I quit!
In this blog I am officially announcing to all my fans that when you want to chat or see pics, or msgs or whatever, you know where to find me. Yep, right here at alexkellymusic.com I love all of you and thank you for your support.

Music
About 10 months ago, I started to learn to play guitar. The process has been intense. Guitar changed my life! It took me from a place of being unhappy and honestly uninspired, to a place of discovery, enlightenment, and dare I say musical bliss!! Sometimes I think about what it was like before I started playing, and I gotta tell you, I don't miss it. I can’t imagine life without my instrument. Obvi the new music will be very different from before. How could it not be? Call me crazy, but I'd rather not write too much about what I am working on. Never know which goons from the majors' (who have ZERO creative ideas) might be reading this. Would hate for someone to “borrow" from me. Trust me, it happens more than it should.

Personal
Now you know damn well I'm not gonna say anything personal on here. LOL!! Wait! I thought of something -Got an invite to a Christmas party that I know is going to be EXTRA! Not sure if going. Ok, enough of that.
***Later****
Alex Kellytag:alexkellymusic.com,2005:Post/37757002015-07-13T12:19:39-04:002017-01-14T10:35:56-05:00Mic CheckEh Hem, is this thing on?.....I have good news for everyone, I'm still alive! Omg, I pretty much pee'd my pants this morning when I read a fan email asking if I was "still alive". WOW, really?! You guys are so crazy sometimes. I can't give you too much shit though, since the world appears to have gone absolutely mad with the advent of social media. Sorry guys, I'm a little old school on this topic. I love ya'll, but I don't LOVE YOU LOVE YOU. How do I say this? I can't actually live in the matrix with you, but I promise to visit every now and then. How's that?

I mean come on, still alive? I can't. Anyways, I'm good. In fact I'm REAL good. Working on music (you know like art and stuff), living my life (which by the way off the road, turns out to be pretty wonderful), and most importantly I'm NOT updating my status with selfies every time I eat a cookie or take a shit. Yea, that last part was for shock value. Did it work? Seeeeeee, I'm not so bad at this after all. Please keep your emails coming, oh how I do enjoy reading the zany notes you leave.

You want a pic don't you? Alright, alright. The moment we've all been waiting for is here at last, the music video for Magnet! Oh yeah, you like that dontcha?! It's so fun getting together again with my team, Kelsey, Bruce, Tanya, and the crew. I usually am pretty good about not giving too much away, but I can say that we are shooting in the VERY VERY near future. The last video we made was for Orange Circle, and we had a ball! Recently someone from the crew was working out at the New York Sports Club and snapped the photo to the left. Omg, we all sent funny text messages back and forth about it all day. Nice to see it's alive in the ether-verse. Thanks to everyone who helped us get the OC video out there! If you haven't seen it yet, check it out Orange Circle Music Video
For the Magnet music video we're gonna really try to make ourselves as uncomfortable as possible.... Meaning try something new. In my mind the only way to do that is to abandon all previous road maps and venture into new territory. So here goes! Haven't heard Magnet yet? For shame!! Lol, jk. Take a listen here Listen to Magnet Alex Kellytag:alexkellymusic.com,2005:Post/12859712013-07-29T06:35:00-04:002013-08-13T10:53:50-04:00On that note...Hey hey!!! Hope you guys didn't miss me too much. Busy busy Alex as usual. I was just sending out some downloads when I realized I haven't written a diary entry in a bit. It's funny cause I could have sworn I did. A crap ton happens to me on a daily basis, so I guess it's just a matter of what to write about. Did I tell you guys about the Space Palace Party? No? Awesome! Ok, so I jump in this cab and go to Brooklyn because I don't want to be late for my show futzing around with the train, and as I'm riding I notice that the scene is changing quite a bit. I mean it's really getting seedy... like shady mcshade town. Even worse, when we arrive at the address, there is no place in sight that I can see would be suitable for a house party. I pay the cab driver, but not before I ask for his reassurance that we are at the right place like 4 times. He kicks me out, and I'm just standing there. Lucky for me these two guys spotted me get out of the cab and walk right up to me. I'm thinking "Shit! I forgot my mace". They ask me if I'm looking for a party. Wondering if we are talking about the same kind of party, I hesitate to answer. The one guy says "The Space Palace Party", and I sigh with relief. For a minute there I really thought I was going to have to kick one of these guys in the balls and make a run for it, but thankfully that wasn't the case.

The building was a typical Brooklyn brownstone (In this case, a grey-stone). I venture down some concrete stairs, into a dark hallway, and past a large curtain made of old VHS cassette tape strips. Cool! As I enter the main room I'm greeted by some of the nicest folks I've met in a long time. Not the 'snooty-hipster' type, but the really chill 'I'm not into fads, and I'm not a poser' type. They welcome me, give me booze and make sure I'm as comfy as possible. The light in the space was super nice too. There was a guy doing wall projections using colored oils that changed the entire space each time he did something new. Kelsey met me there about 20 min after I arrived. Everyone thought we were going to play a full set with our entire band, but weeks before the party we decided to surprise everyone with an acoustic set instead. Turns out, It was just the thing the party needed to get going.

I had such a killer time at The Space Palace. All the bands that played brought thier own unique flavor to the space. We partied all night! All of us! Sweaty, drunk and high on music. Oh yeah, there was this punch they were serving that was out of control! I don't know what the heck was in that stuff, but after drinking one cup I felt like I had 3 cups! Sszzurp? Jungle juice? Whatever, it was goooooood!

There were a few other really cool things that happened, but I'm not allowed to write them on the internet. If you want to find out you should come to the next party. If you're not sure where it is I'm not going to tell you that either. Google it!

-Alex

Alex Kellytag:alexkellymusic.com,2005:Post/9635512013-06-18T07:01:52-04:002013-06-18T07:01:52-04:00OMGI was at the Northside Festival last weekend having a really great time. The whole day I drank free Jameson and ate free food. I was with my very best friends, other musicians, and occasionally the random chatty person. I couldn't have been happier. The whole day passed and I started thinking "This is the perfect day"....or so I thought. At 2am I was hungry again, so my friends and I went to the last open taco truck in Williamsburg. I set my hula hoop (which I had had all day) against a gate that was literally less than a foot away from us. As we turned our backs to the hoop at that ungodly hour, and enjoyed our last meal....I finished my taco only to discover that some A-hole made off with my hoop! We didnt even see it!

For those of you that know how much of a hoop addict I am, you know I was totally freaking out. Thank the lord I had so much alcohol in me that the shock of my stolen hoop didn't hit me til the next morning. Why, why, why???? Stealing is bad. Perhaps the theif never learned this on their local playground as a child, but when you take what isn't yours, usually the take-y gets their older sibling to kick your stealing take-r butt! Why I oughtta......You're lucky my big sister Daphine wasn't here or I'd have her sit on you!

So I'm gonna cry some more....and then cry some more. I was given that hoop 5 years ago by a hippie in the park. She was magical and taught me her magic....So I'm gonna cry about my stolen memory. After a few days though, I'm gonna either make a new hoop myself or buy one. There will never be one like the one I had though. It was the hoop of the golden goddess.....And if I see someone with it, I'm gonna show them a picture of it, wag my finger at them really hard, and politely ask for it back. If that doesn't work, I'll have to resort to the sneakers and vaseline in my purse (and trust me, nobody wants that!).

Sigh.......
Alex Kellytag:alexkellymusic.com,2005:Post/8308942013-05-28T09:02:06-04:002017-01-14T10:35:55-05:00My Pink Wet DreamThere I was in the Hamptons just minding my own business when suddenly I saw her. It was as though someone pulled her right out of my mind. I was sure I had seen her before, but only in my dreams. There she was, just as I had pictured her all these years. The only thing missing was a golden tattoo of my initials on her right side. I wanted to go right up to her and hug her, no kiss her. I wasnted to kiss her so hard and long and squeeze her and never let her go. I thought about it for a minute and decided not to in fear that passers-by might think ill of me. So there I stood in the shadows staring at her, imagining what life would be like if we were together. The hour was growinng late and I had to get ready for dinner, so before I left her, i took a picture vowing to see her again...even if only in my dreams.

Alex Kellytag:alexkellymusic.com,2005:Post/7005922013-05-08T10:00:00-04:002022-05-20T20:05:01-04:00Orange Circle Music Video

It's the point of no return where people start asking you "When is it going to be done?" and "Aren't you guys working on a new project?" After a while, I just hate saying that we're still working on it. Nevertheless, we ARE in the process of recording our next album at GCR Audio.

It's really exciting to see how far we can push these sounds. We work with so many different elements, to see them all come together in just such and such a way is so fantastic. I'm really into the process of it all. Working with Kelsey on a second project so far has been eye opening for the both of us. We surprise each other constantly, it's quite great really. Still not sure if we want to to an EP or an album or if we want to release a series of singles??? We'd love to hear from you though! Reach out to us online here, facebook, twitter, or whatever and let us know what you think. More music news later.
It's going to be a little different without my drummer and our whole set up, although I'm really looking forward to it. In rehearsals, Kelsey and I had a chance to hash out the music in a way we haven't done since we wrote it. Funny how all the electronics and other instrumentation have the ability to both add to and distract from the core of the songs, the writing. When done in an acoustic way, the stories within the songs take the forefront. Makes me mindful of my first love in music.

For me, the song writing process is all consuming. I have a hard time focusing on anything else once I put pen to paper. This tour is going to reflect a very intimate side of me that not many people regularly get a chance to see. It forces me to be real in ways that I'm almost uncomfortable with (I said almost). This kind of challenge is the challenge I live for as an artist.
See you all there.
Sommerville: This was the very first stop on the OM tour. We played at Precinct, where things were a bit quiet when we first arrived.
As the night went on the scene changed only slightly. pILLOW tHEORY fans were in the audience (some wearing thier pIILOW TShirts).
I dont remember meeting anyone from the staff or even the promoter that night. We all took a shot of bourbon and played the show.
Overall this was a quiet gig, with fans that were really pumped about seeing both bands play. Pumped, but calm.
There was also a blogger in attendance. This was one of the "party shows" of the tour for sure. There was a comedian that was on just before pILLOW who had us dying laughing.
The bathtub and other random apartment-like stuff strewn about inspired us to be extremely silly and gave us plenty to do after soundcheck.
990WBOB.com radio was broadcasting from the club that night. We were starving when we got there after being in the van for what seemed like forever.
We went to a place down the street that had THE MOST DELISH fried chicken sandwich I've ever had.
It had Fried green tomato on it..mmmmmm.... Anyhow, the soundgirl (who's name escapes me, sorry) was really great.
She was so polite and really into her job. We were all shocked at the sound that she was able to get in that place! It was damn good.
During my set a group of students/ tourists visiting from France showed up. From the street they heard the music coming out of the club and decided to pop in.
They brought the party, French style! Lol! It was a lot of fun.

Long Branch: Show cancelled due to Sandy storm.

Philly: Awesome time at Dobbs, the people at the club were great. The promoter called us just as we were pulling up to the venue so that he could come out and stand in the street to hold our parking spot.
To some this might seem like a small thing, but we thought it was really nice.
It's just little things like that really make all the bands comfort level go from 0-10.
Some places we've gone to have been the opposite, so we really appreciate the people that are good to us.
The audience was into the music, especially Kelsey mom, who was sitting almost front row (Hi Kelseys' mom!).
Some dude on the street tried to sell us drugs, but we said no. Besides everyone was wasted and ready to go back to the hotel at that point.
Great show at Dobbs though, we'll return again next year for sure.

Buffalo:This city is one of the most underrated cities I know of. Elmwood avenue is gorgeous, and the budding art scene here is truly unique.
Having said that, much to our surprise, the way we were treated at Nietzsche's was absolutely TERRIBLE!
In the green room just before we played, unaware that he was talking to my bandmates, the promoter proceded to say some rather unsavory things about the last show we played in Buffalo. Of course after his speech, my boys came downstairs to let me know what an asshole this guy was.
He was such a wanker, he even refused to give the band more than 1 drink ticket. What a douche!
This was the worst show we played during our whole tour! Not at reflection on the city, it's just a shame this loser was representing them that night.
Well, I'll be the first one to dish since after reading this, Im sure the guys are gonna talk maaad smack! Kelsey drools...hard! And is a total redbull + Cinnabon addict. All is well here in Manhattan. I know that the media would have you all think that the end has come, but not so much. Sure Im without electricity for a few days, the street lights in lower manhattan don't work, and overall it's a ghost town down here, but New Yorkers are tough! Give us lemons, we'll make lemon margherita's, give us a hurricane, we'll get drunk off of those same lemon margherita's til it passes! Look, the point is that in some places the storm hit, shits bad. Hell, in some places its real bad, but I think situations like this force us all to see what really matters in life. What's that you say? Well, it certainly isn't our cell phones, or twitter, or Facebook, or any of the other gadgets we've invented to amuse ourselves (which by the way, depending on where you are located at this point may not be working anyway). Whats matters most in life is living! So even if you are facing a tough road ahead, do your best to go out, take a walk, and along the way give thanks the forces that be that you are still standing....Unlike a lot of tree's in most area. Think about it ;)
Ok, that's enough out of me. I have to head back downtown now. I'm signing off until lord "Con Edision" smiles upon my apartment again.
That's pretty much all I have to say about our showcase for CMJ last Tuesday night. Industry b.s. was a factor as usual, but other than that we had a great night, and played a killer set. My boy Bruce was there with his camera, so eventually you guys can see some footage from the show in case you missed it (booooooooo, shame on you!).

There were a few bands at Sullivan Hall that really rocked us too :) So we made some new friends....Ok, we made some cute new friends.....Ok, I made some cute new friends who wanted to hang out later and I did, but that's all you're gonna get out of me. See ya soon!
I've been busy what can I say. We just wraped the music video's for both Orange Circle and Catalyst. Omg guys, after several days of running around for this and that, dancing, and spending hours in hair and makeup, I was totally spent. I really felt like I wanted to do something wild to get me back to my old self. Something outrageous! Not just the typical get wasted and hang out way too late type of shit though. Especially since I stopped drinking like a month ago already. I called up some friends who suggested that I break something, yeah you read it right, break something. This was the genius idea that was offered to me, so of course I was like "Uh, no...". Jail is too smelly and people stand far too close for a girl like me. Frustrated with outside advice, I decided to listen to my gut and do someting crazy. Something that would have a lasting effect and shock the hell out of everyone! So I cut all my hair off! Haha, take that suits!!!!
If you don't already know my 11:11 fiansco , here is the short of it:
One day 11:11 started appearing everywhere. I'm talking clocks, reciepts, addresses, license plates, you name it. Needless to say, I started getting a little nutty about it after a while. Eventually, I began doing some research on the number 11, which lead to a rather bizzare book entitled "The Law of One" by Ra, the humble messangers of the law of one. The book has 4 parts and scared the Bejesis out of me, but also inspired me to create Orange Circle. I do not recommend this book for casual reading, as the language is a little rough at times. Also, the book is kinda strange, ya know?

I based all of the songs off of concepts I found interesting. The main point that the book makes is that mankind must learn how to LOVE. I really resonate with this idea. I think that if everyone on the planet made a concious effort to practice love on an individual level, than the "problems" of the entire world would cease. Hippie talk you say? The same hippies that did this:

AMAZING.Yep, Im with it! I'd like to encourage all of my fans to make it their mission in 2012 to perform random acts of LOVE. I believe in you ;)
The Orange Circle single is about the joy of existing, the joy of being. It is a celebration of the sun, giver of LOVE/LIGHT, the source of life for all living things on planet earth.
Enjoy!
Until next entry,
I have been putting off writing about this album forever. The reason is because I wasn't sure what I should omit as opposed to what I should share (haha). So here's my semi-censored version of what happened. Try not to vomit (lol).

I love Kelsey Warren! (I said no vomitting)
Now, before you go making up any "secret-crush" rumors, let me explain. I moved back to NYC not knowing if I could even get a gig, let alone start a new project. I was at a warehouse party in Williamsburg one night with VJ Kala and my friend Melo, when I met a guitar player named Michael. His band was playing the party that night. After offering me a joint (which I reluctantly refused), I asked Michael if he would play guitar in my band (which he reluctantly refused), but offered me the number of someone he said would be "perfect". A few days later I called the number written on rolling paper, and set up a meeting with Kelsey Warren.

Kelsey and I met at Whole Foods in Union Square. Immediately we were comfortable with each other and started to discuss the new project, and how we'd go about executing a plan. I can't explain it, but I knew from jump we were in store for quite a ride. From that day on we set out to make Orange Circle come hell or high water, and boy, if I was ever going to omit anything, this is it! So lets use "bla bla bla blabla bla blabla" for filler.

Several months into it, we found ourselves going to extemes for creative inspiration. One day we were walking down the street and passed an old funky hotel building, whose lobby was filled with sexy Europeans. Yes, all of them, very sexy and very foreign. So of course, we stopped. What we found inside the hotel was nothing short of a miracle. Wall to wall artwork! Paintings ceiling to floor in every room, all done by various artists. This hotel was like my fantasy writing space! We checked oursleves in for a little over a week, with the vow of either killing each other or finishing the album. The result is what you all will be listening today. I wish I could tell you the name of the hotel, but I have alreaedy given you enough clues to do a google search and find it on your own. Besides, I really love it there and would hate to not be able to get a reservation (wink wink). Love you though. Anyhow, not only were we able to gig in NY, but everyone was and continues to be super receptive to the music. I'm grateful and so humbled by this experience. Kelsey and I fought like brother and sister, especially when it came to exchanging certain ideas, but when all was said and done, each gave just enough to make it all work, just like Michael said "perfect".

Want more behind the scene's stories? Check out my diary later this week.
